It was formed after the State Government, RFS and National Parks and Wildlife Service would not take an interest in fire safety concerns following the 2001 fires in the Goobang National Park.

Formed in 1991, the Queensland Auxiliary Firefighter Association was formed with a committee consisting of representatives from each region being appointed to a State Committee. The committee meets regularly to present recommendations in all aspects of auxiliary training, conditions, facilities ect in compliance with QAFA constitutional rights.
